The concert centres on Dewa Alit’s latest album, Baur Bentur, released in June 2026 by Black Truffle Records (Australia). In this production, Dewa Alit draws inspiration from jazz, avant-garde music and electronic music.

At the heart of the album’s experimental approach is “mixing and smashing,” as suggested by the album title: the encounter between musical instruments from different traditions, represented here by gamelan and piano. The very different tuning systems of these instruments challenge the composer to find innovative solutions, exploring their distinct sonic qualities and developing new formal approaches that bring unity and contrast into a coherent musical relationship.

The concert will feature selected works from the album, performed by a reduced formation of 17 musicians, including the guest pianist Sri Hanuraga from Jakarta.

The Basel performance is presented in collaboration with Gare du Nord Basel, the Archipel Festival in Geneva and the Musée d’ethnographie de Genève (MEG).
